My World Economic Forum

My World Economic Forum is my notes from read @wef tweet. Make conclusion for myself or anothers (maybe).

1.               Diplomat

Whoever lands the top job at the UN will be greeted on their first day by a full in-tray...

brutal conflicts,
violent extremism,
climate change,
ongoing discrimination against women and girls,
some 700 million people still living in extreme poverty and
a record number of displaced people around the world.

There are also 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve by 2030.

2.               Optogenetics

The top 10 technologies to make this year’s list are:

1. Nanosensors and the Internet of Nanothings
2. Next Generation Batteries
3. The Blockchain
4. 2D Materials
5. Autonomous Vehicles
6. Organs-on-chips
7. Perovskite Solar Cells
8. Open AI Ecosystem
9. Optogenetics
10. Systems Metabolic Engineering

3.               Protein & Running

The Cell Metabolism study examined Cathepsin B (CTSB) protein secretion during running.

By assisting in the expression of BDNF, this protein had beneficial effects on cognition, specifically enhanced adult brain cell growth in the hippocampus and spatial memory function.

4.               Procrastinate

“You’re actually doing the smartest and most productive thing in the world if you waste time,” Maria Konnikova said last week in a workshop about the psychology of creativity at Adobe’s 99U conference in New York City.

5.               Woman and Computer

Computer programming is a field dominated by men, right?

Well, in terms of sheer numbers that’s true. Data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that 73% of US computer science workers are male coders. Across technology generally, women are underrepresented.

6.               About CEO

According to a new study led by Steven N. Kaplan at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and Morten Sorensen at Copenhagen Business School, there are four key characteristics that can predict whether you'll become a CEO:

general ability,
execution skills,
charisma, and
strategic skills.

7.               Gedankenexperiments

One of Einstein's most defining qualities was his remarkable ability to conceptualize complex scientific ideas by imagining real-life scenarios. He called these scenarios Gedankenexperiments, which is German for thought experiments.

The fact that these two effects would produce the same results led Einstein to the conclusion that there is no difference between gravity and acceleration — they are the same thing.

8.               Hesitation

Economic slowdowns can often be characterized as periods of hesitation. Consumers hesitate to buy a new house or car, thinking that the old house or car will do just fine for a while longer. Managers hesitate to expand their workforce, buy a new office building, or build a new factory, waiting for news that will make them stop worrying about committing to new ideas. Viewed from this perspective, how worried should we be about the effects of hesitation today?

Loss of economic “confidence” is one possible cause. Published confidence indices, available since the 1950s, are based on polls that ask consumers or businesspeople about their perceptions of business activity and expectations of future income and employment.

9.               Millennials

Education is the bedrock for thinking in an organized way about creativity. However, articulating the problem is half the solution. New and innovative ways of doing things can come from unexpected sources, not least the current generation of millennials.

The core medium for education in the workplace is story-telling, a time-tested way of passing the culture of a company on to future generations.

I sit on several executive committees where many old ideas are constantly recycled and there are few young people with fresh ideas in the room. The danger here is the “dinosaur effect”. We keep listening to the same cassette with our best songs, while losing touch with new music and new genres. In the end, the company perishes from lack of innovation.

10.           Teenager Problem

The answer, in large part, lies in how we empower the girls of today – in particular the more than 325 million girls aged 10 to 19 across our region.
