1. On average, most people in the world today are more and better educated than their parents, no matter where they live,
2. Youth, women and older people still do not get the opportunities they want in most labour markets,
3. We need to reform education for the next generation. But that alone is not enough. We also need to up-skill the current workforce,
4. Too many employers and governments around the world are focused on a narrow talent pool,
5. Business and educational institutions need to deepen their collaboration on education, re-skilling and up-skilling across the globe.

Why the West got rich and the Middle East did not
Jared Rubin  OCTOBER 01, 2017
One notable danger is that the types of people who would push for policies that promote long-run growth are excluded from the political bargaining table.
While the book is primarily about why this outcome arose in history, my arguments clearly have implications for the twenty-first century fortunes of the Middle East. Religion still plays an important role in legitimating Middle Eastern political rule.

It argues that the religion itself is not to blame; the importance of religious legitimacy in Middle Eastern politics was the primary culprit.
